Mass extinction is an inevitability, inherently so on Earth where life clings to a shifting rocky surface floating on molten magma randomly bombarded by an arsenal of rocketing NEOs (Near Earth Objects).
Yet, life has not only been robust on such occasions but also miraculously punctuated by the survival of progressively higher orders -- as when mammals succeeded the mass extinction of dinosaurs (at a time of immense volcanic eruptions and asteroid impacts).
Until, with a miracle of miracles, that progression led to new muscle. Mankind's technology, mitigating some of the damage, at last prevented an outright collapse in evolution. And almost as quickly, the opportunity has come, with the Questor fimans, to escape with nature to safer areas of space. For the first time, in 2066, for all of DeepStorm's horrors, evolution can truly become secure. |
